Torremolinos Rising with Operas and Zarzuela
Zarzuela La del manojo de rosas will be performed this Friday, July 8, at 10:30 pm in Municipal Auditorium Príncipe de Asturias, Torremolinos. Siglo XXI Opera Company opens the Torremolinos Lyric Season twelfth edition.
With lyrics by Anselm C. Carreño and Francisco Ramos de Castro and with Pablo Sorozábal musics, the great operetta opens the cycle. Turandot, The elixir of love and Aida, the three operas by the International Opera Company (Concerlírica), complete it.
Zarzuela reflects in a theatrical and entertaining way many aspects of Spanish life. La del manojo de rosas is classified as a lyrical farce, with two acts, divided into six tables. Fuencarral Theatre was the scene where it was premiered in 1934.
Sorozábal knew how to reflect the atmosphere of Madrid at the time of release. In this his consecration as composer, he used traditional rhythms of farce: quickstep, mazurka and chotis, and mixed with others like fox-trot and farruca.
